Very memorable. And probably easier to spell than "Vaught" :)

Re: Social Media 101: Owning your name

If you're hired to be the "face of the company," the Social Media Guy or Community Manger, that's one thing... Otherwise, I definitely agree that anyone should create their own brand. One that's easily transferrable should you change companies at any point.

I did this in lending. I created my own blog, branded it, owned my name's domain... When I switched companies, NO ONE noticed! All of my business cards had my personal contact info. on them (website, phone, etc.). So when I made the switch, nothing changed but the physical address and company name. Ultimately, nobody noticed and nobody cared because they knew "Ricardo Bueno."

Currently, I write at "Ribeezie." My name's domain redirects there (at least until I find something else to do with it).

Re: If you write a blog, why are you hiding?

I'm curious what spam phone calls they get? Is it that much worse in the real estate business. I post my phone number and have never had spam from it (that I know of)

But I obviously agree. Make yourself reachable. That's the point of all this right? :)

Re: If you write a blog, why are you hiding?

I know A LOT of real estate bloggers who don't put up their email address anywhere on their site. And in some cases, their phone number too. You know why? They fear the spam phone calls. But in my opinion, those come with the territory. You have to take 'em and deal with it!

If you don't make your contact info. visible, you're "shooting yourself in the foot" and missing out on some opportunities (at least in my humble opinion).

Re: Do you own YOU?

Thanks for the shoutout. Part of what made me think it is Ron at RonAmok.com. So there are two other sides to this, one, making a new identity like you have with mayjah, and the other is having your brand attached to another brand, like Ron Ploof at RonAmok, but you own both brands. Both very valid and very useful.

Thanks for your reply, a great point, and a follow up post is needed. :)

Re: Do you own YOU?

Ron indeed owns Ron.

Re: jeremyvaught.com is turning the corner

Awesome. As a female, I have an added worry with putting my real name all over the internet - weirdo stalkers. I think girls have to take their safety into consideration as well. Having a small baby at home, it's just one more thing I don't want to worry about right now. I'm going to buy my name up, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I'll be branding with it at the moment.

Re: jeremyvaught.com is turning the corner

Thanks for the kind words Roseann! I think I will be me :)

As far as the camera goes, I have two suggestions. The N97 is a phone, not a camera. And while it is a great device, like my N95, I still desire better cameras. So my two suggestions are a Canon Elph and a Sony Xacti. The Canon takes video and fantastic photos, and Canon's are especially great at low light (ie indoor). The video is not bad at all, but it is an add on to a still frame camera. The Sony Xacti takes photos, and fantastic video. For links to the Sony, see a couple of posts ago. I've had a Canon and loved it. My girlfriend has one and she loves it. I have several friends with Xactis and they love them, in fact, Amazon sent me an email this morning that mine is on the way.

So I would say, do you need FANTASTIC pictures and pretty good video? Pick the Canon. Or do you need FANTASTIC video and pretty good pictures? Pick the Sanyo

Re: jeremyvaught.com is turning the corner

Way to go, Jeremy!

Love your final salvo. Brogan's a good act to reach for. And you're Jeremy Vaught. That you stood outside PodCampAZ at the end of two days and gave me a tutor session on the N-95 camera and showed me how to put it up on Qik and Seesmic when you could have just run for the car? That's class.

You care. And you have knowledge. And you like sharing it with people. You're a good guy. And there's room. You be you.

Good idea on the separation between personal and professional blog content. I'm looking forward to reading more!

On that note, can you advise me what still and video camera you'd recommend NOW? My iPhone pics are pitiful at night time on Twitter. And Scoble is hot on the N-97. What do you say? Thanks. It is less than 1/3 the cost of the xacti, and fills a niche for sure. One of each would be a nice combo. :)

Re: I have Xacti lust again

I like this better than my Flip.

Flip ain't bad though.

Re: I have Xacti lust again

You realize that's one of the seven deadly sins, right?

Re: Protected Twitter updates

This is a great point mayjah. Their true intentions are hidden. The other side of that , is I try to follow people back that follow me, unless they are spammers or don't speak my language. However, if someone I don't know follows me and they have their updates protected, I rarely follow them back.

Re: Protected Twitter updates

I don't understand protected updates either. I don't use twitter like britekite, announcing my exact location, so I can't see the harm in sharing my updates with the whole wide world. Nothing sadder than refollowing someone who is private (out of curiosity) only to find them boring/annoying/spammy. Be upfront with your annoyingness!

Re: If you write a blog, why are you hiding?

I'm for it.
Except for the psychos, spammers, and people I disagree with :)

Re: If you write a blog, why are you hiding?

I get, updating my blog shortly

Re: Protected Twitter updates

haha, and thanks for the link to your protected twitter account. :) well played

Re: Protected Twitter updates

I'm less trying to make a point as to make some humor. Personally, I do find it odd that people try to walk the fence of being social and anti-social. But we each have our own feeling of where to draw the line on privacy. I get that part. Sorta.

But if you travel across the country to attend a Podcamp, I think you are slightly beyond the anti-social, and squarely in the social. What do you have to hide anyway?

Re: If you write a blog, why are you hiding?

Oh dear.
